Calculated Carelessness

Austin, TX 2013
While on the road with Okkervil River, Lauren Gurgiolo began composing a group of songs inspired by Soren Kierkegaard’s “The Seducer’s Diary.” Her longtime obsession with the book led to 7 tunes musically influenced by the characteristics of Kierkagarrd’s writing with deconstructed lyrics from the story, recorded by The Dialtones.

To celebrate the release of the CD, Calculated Carelessness, a special multi-media installation based on the work was preformed in May 2013 at the Museum of Human Achievement in Austin, Texas. This interactive, multi-media installation immersed audiences in the eerie, dreamlike world of Kierkegaard’s The Seducer’s Diary.
